Introducing Colored PPF.. Yes PPF not Vinyl!

Apart from our STEK DYNO films, Pure Protection Film is a company that offers OEM inspired hue/colored Paint Protection Film (PPF) solutions for vehicles. Yes you read that right, a colored PPF. Since PPF is typically a clear polyurethane film that is applied to the surface of a vehicle's paint to provide protection against various external elements, such as stone chips, bug splatter, bird droppings, and road tar. The film is designed to be exaclty the same but with color pigments in it , allowing it to protect the paint while restyling the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle. Now as this product arises, there is one main question… What makes this different to a Vinyl Wrap?

Colored Paint Protection Film (PPF):

Purpose: Colored PPF’s primary service to act as a protective layer for a vehicle's paint, offering defense against stone chips, bug splatter, bird droppings, and other road debris while also changing the color of youe vehicle completely

Material: Colored PPF is an 7 mill colored polyurethane material. (Vinyl is only 2 mil in thickness). Colored PPF provides not only protection but also the opportunity to add a customized appearance to the vehicle. Along with that they come with a hydrophobic top coat (think of it as a ceramic coated infused film) that allows for easy maintenance and an incredible depth of color.

Self Healing: Self-healing properties in PURE Paint Protection Film (PPF) allow the film to have ability to automatically repair or mitigate minor scratches and swirl marks that may occur on its surface. Think of it as Wolverine Skin but with paint.. This is game changer especially on those satin/matte finishes in which it is hard to keep scratch free with vinyl wrap.

ZERO Orange Peel/Texture: PURE Paint Protection FIlm (PPF) is composed of Elastic Polyurethane TPU giving your car a paint-like appearance with zero waviness or unnecessary 'orange peel' textures. Sure, some vinyl wrap brands solved this, but, have you seen it after 6 months?

Warranty: PURE Protection Film carries a real world tested 7+ Year warranty. With Vinyl Wraps you are more likely to start degrading the film in just a bit over 2 years with proper maintenance.
STEK USA Colored PPF Carries a 10 year warranty and also comes with Carbon Fiber patterns (in gloss or matte) , Tinted PPF for your headlights or tail lights, And MORE!!

Vinyl Wrap:

  1. Purpose: Vinyl wrap is mainly used for cosmetic customization, allowing vehicle owners to change the color or appearance of their vehicles short term (maybe every 2/2.5 years) without affecting the original paint.

Material: Vinyl wrap is made of a flexible and thin vinyl material (PVC) , much thinner and is also dry applied. Vinyl does not have any self healing capabilities as PPF does, and with matte films you cannot polish them either.

Temporary Nature: Vinyl wraps are considered semi-permanent and can be removed without damaging the original paint, making them a popular choice for those who want to change their vehicle's look periodically.

Considerations:

  • Protection vs. Aesthetics: Colored PPF primarily focuses on protecting the paint AND Changing the appearance of your vehicle, while vinyl wraps are more about just temporarily changing the vehicle's appearance.

  • Durability: PPF is designed to withstand impact and resist damage, providing a protective barrier. Vinyl wraps are generally less resistant to impacts and may be more prone to wear and tear over time.

  • Application: PPF application requires precision and expertise, often done by professionals. Vinyl wraps can be applied by professionals or as a DIY project, but skill is still essential for a smooth and durable finish.

Ultimately, the choice between colored PPF and vinyl wrap depends on your priorities. If you are looking for both protection and a customized appearance, colored PPF might be a suitable option. If your main goal is a change in aesthetics without the same level of protection, a vinyl wrap could be more appropriate.
